The pad offers extra cushioning on the back of your horse and a saddle pad has the function of absorbing the sweat of your horse. The sweat of your horse can affect the leather of your saddle and you do not want that.

We, at Livin Horse Shop, do recommend that you wash the saddle pad regularly. The reason for this is that your horse's sweat is absorbed into the saddle pad and this dried sweat can cause a lot of chafing. You want to prevent this.
